Do the different transmission codes on the 02j trannys make a difference when it comes to installing (fitment) them?

I called some place to buy a tranny and they asked me for the code on the tranny. I dont have the car with me right now so I cant check. Does anyone know what the code is for a 2003 1.8t jetta? Do they come with different codes?

There is also a difference in the final drive ratio.

3.94 on the AWD/some AWW engines
~3.65 on the AWW/AWP engines

So if you want the same RPM on teh highway you want to get a 2002 or newer trans. ill check my housigns when I get home and pull some ##'s for ya

Yea i know about the final drive ratio being different on AWD/AWW. I just wasn't sure if awp's have more than one transmission codes. But if you can get me a code for a awp that would be awesome.

I found out that there are all these code for a 1.8t:

EBQ, EMT, EGX, FBW

Supposedly they all have the same gearing, would any of these work without a problem?

1.8T - EBQ, EMT, EGX, FBW
TDI - DQY, EBJ, EGR
2.0 - DZQ, EBP, EGT, EKG, EKH, EMS, EZK, FBV
VR6 - DZC, EHC, EGF, EWW, FBY, FCF

now here is more info:

ASD====3.300=1.944==1.308==1.09==0.717==3.16==TDI I've heard of a few being bought in the USA but I believe its a euro MK3 TDI tranny

O2C trannys (SYNCRO):

AYR ====3.778=2.118=1.345=0.971=0.756=3.944== Passat Syncro

CDH====3.778=2.118=1.360=0.967=0.769=3.938== Passat Syncro

I will later start a O2J tranny code list as the gears are also swapable.
1.8T trannys coded: EBQ, EMT, EGX, FBW:
_1st___2nd___3rd___4th___5th___R&P_
3.300-1.944-1.308-1.029-0.837-3.938

TDI trannys coded: DQY, EBJ, EGR:
_1st___2nd___3rd___4th___5th___R&P_
3.788-2.118-1.360-0.971-0.756-3.389

2.0 trannys coded: DZQ, EBP, EGT, EKG, EKH, EMS, EZK, FBV:
_1st___2nd___3rd___4th___5th___R&P_
3.778-2.118-1.360-1.029-0.837-4.235

VR6 trannys coded: DZC, EHC, EGF, EWW, FBY, FCF
_1st___2nd___3rd___4th___5th___R&P_
3.625-2.071-1.474-1.038-0.844-3.389

1.8T - EBQ, EMT, EGX, FBW

Final Drive (FD) = 63:16=3.938
1st Gear (1) = 33:10=3.300
2nd Gear (2) = 35:18=1.944
3rd Gear (3) = 34:26=1.308
4th Gear (4) = 35:34=1.029
5th Gear (5) = 36:43=0.837
Reverse (R) = 18:9x36:20=3.600

TDI - DQY, EBJ, EGR

FD = 61:18=3.389
1 = 34:9=3.788
2 = 36:17=2.118
3 = 34:25=1.360
4 = 34:35=0.971
5 = 34:45=0.756
R= 18:9x36:20=3.600

2.0 - DZQ, EBP, EGT, EKG, EKH, EMS, EZK, FBV

FD = 72:17=4.235
1 = 34:9=3.778
2 = 36:17=2.118
3 = 34:25=1.360
4 = 35:34=1.029
5 = 36:43=0.837
R= 18:9x36:20=3.600

VR6 - DZC, EHC, EGF, EWW, FBY, FCF

FD = 61:18=3.389
1 = 29:8=3.625
2 = 29:14=2.071
3 = 28:19=1.474
4 = 27:26=1.038
5 = 27:32=0.844
R = 15:8x36:20=3.389

If anyone is going to use these numbers, I would double check the math first. I found some errors in the Bentley - e.g., 2.0 - 1st gear = 34:9 - it should be 3.778 and not 3.788. The numbers listed above are verbatim from the Bentley, so if there are any errors, it's the book's fault.

from my experience all AWW and AWD are 3.94 FD
while the AWP motors got the 3.65 FD

the vr6 bell housing is deff. different
and so is their FD which is around 3.39 on the mkiv (not 100% on this)
the auto vr6 I know is 3.94 FD (not that it matters, just stupid facts I know)

I saw that on the vortex, but would any of those 1.8t codes work on a 2003 1.8t jetta?

what about the rest of the gears on the AWD/AWP are they they same except for the FD?

Dont forget that 1st and 2nd are part of the shaft and cannot be switched. Id like to make a franken tranny for my car.

Im a bit low in the rev's sometimes for auto-x id like to raise my revs about 1000 rpm in 2nd gear, and lower 3rd to match, maybe run a 3.95 trans with a tdi 5th gear so it's not all revved out on the highway. Do you ahve the other gears handy. i know it's in teh bently, but that's at home. Im working shh.
