I have the ATP Manifold, and I'm using a T3/T04E (.50/.48).
I've heard a lot of people having to "clock" the turbo, does this just mean positioning the turbo correctly when bolting it to the manifold? Which is the correct way to "clock" it?

you are just rotating the compressor housing. You release the bolts that hold the compressor housing to the center seciont. and depending on the turbo you can either rotate it based on bolt position, or adjust it infinitly.
for instance I had to clock one of my k04s to get it to like up right with the feed lines (that are hard lines)
so I loosened four bolts that hold down the little clips, rotated, and retightened.
took about 1 minute.

You need to make sure the oil drain is withinn about 15 degrees of vertical, and that the compressor housing points in the right direction.

Yep, loosen the 6 bolts around the turbine housing and compressor wheel carefully until you can rotate the chra, and housings seperatley, rotate them to where you desire, i believe its a 13mm bolt, or you can use a 1/2" should be pretty similar, or the one on my desk is. Rotate it to where you want it, but make sure the oil drain is for the most part vertical, then tighten the bolts down, make sure it spins freely and you're good, just dont loosen the housings off too much and get them on crooked or you might bend a fin.
Then you'd be like this guy: :help2:

I have posted the same question about a year ago on Tex and had zero responses. This forum is great.

By the time you decide to upgrade to a REALLY BIG TURBO, there would be someone with even BIGGER TURBO which really makes your BIG TURBO look like really small turbo. - Igo®

If your going to ask either of the following: "What: CAI, BoV, BoV, Exhaust, Rims, Dildo, Vibrator, should I get?" Go to: VWVortex.com they will help you!

well there is no law on the angle of the exhaust manifold outlet for the turbo, so yes you must always clock the turbo, unless its right to start with

I have everything "setup" like bolted to a piece of plywood, kind of a "test" before it goes in the car. so I'm planning on "clocking" the turbo while its on place on the wood so that its right when i put it in the car..
I'll take a pic once I get my cam working again..

I remeber someone on the vortex saying if the turbo oil drain wasn't vertical it was bad for the seals. I understand people clocking the turbos so the oil drains better, but does it make a huge difference between vertical and 15 degrees as the oil inside is already pressurized?

You just don't want any restriction for the drain.

Most turbos do have to be clocked, unless they are K04s or something like that going onto an oem app. :eek3dance:
