Looking for an EBC. ANyone using the Greddy Type S ?

Do you like it better than the Profec Type B spec II ? Easier set-up?

I'm going to run one on my new setup and I'm pretty sure I'll be going with the Type S.  From everything I've heard the spec II is a real PITA...

that is a misconseption adam...

it is all about setting up the gain correctly
I have 2 friends running it on their cars with 0 issues
one is a gt28rs equipped car...you know him OneQuickDub...we Halo'ed it up together  Cool  and the other is a k03sport vehicle...they boost great...the solenoid works great and you can use it as a manual 2 stage boost controller  :eek3dance:

so your thoughts are that the Spec 2 is better, or you haven't used the Type S ?

A friend of mine had an AVC-R that worked in the same way...it worked, but wasn't as easy as a turn dial.  But for a $100 savings I just might look more at the spec II Wink

I have the spec 2. SUPER easy to set up. Works perfect. The people on the vortex are retards if they can't get it to work right.

install on both units is a breeze...nothing to it
however getting the spec II intially setup is somewhat difficuly...once you have it setup then its SUPER easy to use.

the type S is a little easier to intially get all setup, and just as easy to use.

i got this from the 'tex a while back and it works like a charm.

i set one up on my buddie's car (fwd sr20det) ... the instructions on the evo forums confuse me. anyhow, now that i know how it works - there's really not much to it.
how i did it ...

1) change the units to psi as documented in the manual.
2) turn off the boost controller
3) do a test run to see max psi - this is max boost set by the wastegate only. make note of it.
4) determine % increase for desired boost.

say wastegate boost is 10psi, and your desired boost is 14.5psi.

dB = desired Boost
wB = wastegate Boost

((dB-wB)/wB)*100 = %

in our case:
((14.5-10)/10)*100 = 45%

5) SET = 45% in this case
6) GAIN = do not touch yet ... leave @ 0% for now
7) SET GAIN (aka START BOOST) = dB - 4psi ... 10.5psi for this scenario

Cool WARNING = dB + 1psi ... 15.5psi in this case
9) LIMITER = 4%
10) go for a test run. you will notice that the boost doesn't build smoothly. this is where u adjust the GAIN. bump up the GAIN by 5% increments. then retest after each increment. if it starts to overshoot your desired boost, then you've gone too high. back it down 1% at a time 'til it no longer overshoots desired boost.

that's it ... pretty simple

how do u know what your desired boost should be? learn to read a compressor map

NOTE: if your max boost @ SET is higher/lower than desired, adjust as necessary ... it's not dead-on accurate

I have the the Profec E-01

In addition to the Spec II, it gives you 3 (instead of 2) switchable customizable maps, RPM based duty cycles adjustments, a data logging display (can log 3 simultaneously for up to 3 hrs, good replacement for a boost gauge), the ability to monitor additonal channels such as throttle position, etc, as well as connect to the emanage (when we can finally get emanages to work properly on our cars).

I paid $380 for my E-01 and I love it. The SET, Gain, Warning, Limiter, are all like the SpecII. It's a little less user friendly and the color doesn't match (green), but it's still a great device if you like the additional features that I mentioned.

Edit: I forgot to mention, that in order to monitor additional channels, you need to buy an "external wiring harness" which allows you to monitor 2 additonal channels as well as voltage clamp (think adjustable diode). It even works with analog or pulse type signals!

sounds like a neat unit...I read about it...never had the chance or $$$ to play with it...but we don't have a TPS on our DBW cars...

We have Throttle angle sensors on the TB. this is the same as TPS. The Electronic gas pedal is not a TPS.

the type s looks nice, was wondering about it myself......... i think it was put out to go with the simplicity of the old spec 1.... some people just cant get the hang of a spec 2.
