Got my stainless 3" exhaust made into a side exit yesterday.

Also got Upsolute AWD BT V4 put in yesterday. Car is running great so far(by the but dyno....I will do some logging this weekend and hook the wideband up). Running APR stg 3 hardware with Upsolute BT software.

Why would anyone do that?  Read on if you want:

original problem http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1924717

I really hated to do it, but I can't afford to have my entire engine bay/ecu/fusebox etc rewired. If it comes to that, then I'll go 034EFI instead.

I only paid $1600 for a used APR kit and then some extra bits and pieces to complete it. Then I paid for software which my car kept burning the modules out on....last one lasted 5 minutes Mad

So I got a refund and then spent ~$400 on Upsolute. I wont say what I paid for the APR software, but I got a full refund.

So far it's working great, no electrical problems. yet.

The theory(from the shop I went through), APR and Staley is that APR's Stg3 modules are VERY sensitive and my car is burning them out. GIAC, Upsolute etc use a more robust chip and my car doesn't burn them out. I had GIAC for 2 years with no electrical problems.

So the only codes I'm getting are o2 bank1 Sensor 2 heating circuit and resistance too high. So I need a new rear o2 sensor. Oh and the secondary ari injection pump code since I removed all that.

Keeping my fingers crossed =)

BTW the exhaust has just a cat, no resonator or muffler Razz

Looks awesome.  Any possibility of getting a sound clip, or vid of the car?  I'd like to hear the exhaust.

Fred, I'm curious to see the AFR on your setup...you have access to a wideband or planning on dynoing soon?...

I will probably get the wideband in tomorrow. It's dead right now. It was backfiring just cruising on the highway, so I pulled over and turned the FPR down as low as it would go...which was 49psi with the vacuum off.
It ran a little better, but the plugs were toasted already and I basically limped home 2 miles with the CEL flashing....sputtered out and died in the garage.

If I can get some plugs tomorrow, I'll plug the LM-1 in and see how it's doing.

I just don't really have time for this tuning crap.  Need to be able to drive relaibly back and forth one hour each way to work and this just isn't cutting it.

If there are no dramatic improvements tomorrow, it's coming off.  I've already missed a day of work and been late numerous times, as well as missed 5 races this year due to this turbo kit Crying or Very sad

Fred, try lowering the FP to about 38-40 psi sans vacuum. That UP BT file runs rich...It should be fine at that setting I know for a fact... Wink

Just for a piece of mind you can log block 033 and monitor the O2 voltage...it should be at .875v @ WOT which is safely in between 12.1-12.5 AFR if you see .9v and beyond it's too rich and .75v and below your to lean.

I always wonderd what a side exhaust would look like on a GTi haha...
Can you notice any differences between turbo spool times?? does it spool it a bit quicker? :eek3dance:

Fred, you may possibly face court chargers for infringing an intellectual property.  http://www.estrictlyforeign.com/asp/product.asp?category=1&ID=1645

By the time you decide to upgrade to a REALLY BIG TURBO, there would be someone with even BIGGER TURBO which really makes your BIG TURBO look like really small turbo. - Igo®
