My car is a 2004.5 GLI 1.8T. Up untill now I was sure my car had an LSD, and now I'm not so sure after being told by a few other people. A buddy of mine has an Evo w/ an LSD and when a wheel slips, it makes a quick grind noise. Mine does the same thing in snow, so naturally I figure thats whats making the noise. It doesnt sound like grinding a gear, its a deeper more solid sounding grind. But it happens when its slippery out and I'm wondering what it is if I dont have an LSD. Btw it happens with or without traction control on.

Any input?? Thanks in advance  icon_thumbup1

Did you buy this car used? If not, you don't have an LSD. If you did, there is a chance, but I don't know how to tell.

The car is used, but I have to agree... The chances of it having an LSD are slim to none. Now I'm trying to figure out what this noise is. Some people have said its my ABS but when I do slip coming to a stop its a different noise.
