Well, we installed an AEB head on a AWP block.

The goal is to one day have a car with BT and of course more power.
We have been talking to some people about the option of the AEB head install and have been told that its a simple swap. I really didn't think so however, we went with it anyways and put one on my friends GTI. Not just out of the blue one of the spark plug ports was severely stripped out. So instead of getting a head of like value or taken the original to a machine shop to have them re thread if possible we went with the AEB.

We finished assembling the project and now it runs rather rough and has an implausible signal from the Cam Positioning Sensor. Truthfully has a really hard time staying started. Of course, not trying to run it for too long in this state.

We took the actual sensor off the AWP head. Is this acceptable?

I have read that you can use the cam chain tensioner with VVT from the AWP and you can just use the cam chain tensioner w/o on the AEB.

I have also heard that the timing should be adjusted differently on the AEB head vice the AWP.

I hate to say it but I am feeling sort of clueless right now, not normal for me (ha ha). Not that its a problem, learning is always occurring. As corny as that may have sounded... I am not really new at this, just haven't swapped a 1.8T head till now.

Looks like I am going to have to remove the chain tensioner too anyways because it appears that oil is leaking from it. I am assuming that I am going to have to replace the gasket at the very least....

I have a AEB head that I plan on installing on my own Jetta in the not-so distant future as well. That head has to be built though. It came bare no cams, spring, nor valves.

as mentioned on the vortex, you need to use the AWP cam gear, the trigger wheel under the cam position sensor, and the VVT if you want to keep it.the heads are a direct swap otherwise,i have done it a few times as well as alot of other people.

and the timing will be no different from the AEB vs. the AWP since they are the same except for the port size and the EGR.
