Hello. I'm trying to piece some information together. Did a search on 'AMU' and found nothing that could help me.

It is my understanding that both the AMU (TT 225hp model) and AMB (native to my B6 A4) are both 06a blocks. Is this true?

If so, then I presume an AMU block will bolt up to my 5spd manual as well as all my engine mounts in my Audi B6 A4 chassis (longitudinal orientation). Yes?

I am crossing my fingers since I have a complete AMU long block sitting in my garage right now that I'd like to build for my AVant.

Thanks in advance!

FYI:

I've gotten confirmation that this should work in my chassis.  icon_thumbup

BobQ... I've sent you an email requesting a quote for parts.

Thanks!

the engine blocks are different.  The B6 engine's thermostat is different, it is electronically controlled, where the TT one is "normal".  The Coolant passage where the thermostat bolts is different.  And the TT block is webbed. But they will bolt into the car the same

Correct.

I am pretty much just using the AMU block and head. All the external accessories will be off my AMB engine from my B6. I'll most likely retrofit the B6 thermostat to the older style like what came with the AWM.

As I was installing the QED-built AMU block and head into my B6 A4 I noticed some discrepancies with the thermostat flange.

Looks like the goose neck for the B6 A4 thermostat (AMB native motor) protrudes a few mm deeper (2-3 if I recall) into the block than the native AMU thermostat. While I was at BobQ's this past weekend we also noticed the AMB native thermostat has the same problem with another block (I don't recall the code, but it was a pre-AMB block.

What I did, to fix the issue, was to take a belt sander to the AMB native thermostat and get rid of the excess material. The good news here is that thermostat itself is deep inside the housing, not right up on the block like a traditional thermostat (or the AMU native unit). That allowed me to get away with this technique. Grinding down to the O-ring seat gave me the few mm back which allowed me to fit the AMB native thermostat on my AMU block.

Sorry I don't have any pictures. Hope my words explained enough.

My question is: "Does this problem lie with all (or just some) of the older blocks (pre AMB)?" Just some food for thought.
