QED commisioned  the folks at ESK to make EkaGrip to make shims for the VAG 6 bolt 4 clyinder bolt pattern http://www.esk.com/en/products-brands/products/frictional-connection-elements/friction-enhancing-metal-shims.html

The purpose is to help with flywheel retention on high HP/high RPM cars.

$39.00 each

I'll be specing out a complete kit over the next couple of months.

Saftery wire wouldn't help.  The problem isn't the bolts loosening, it is the friction between the flywheel and crank (which is what keps it from twisting) being overcome.  Once that happens the bolts become loaded in shear and once that happens failure is imminent.

have you doweled any cranks on your engines bob?
I know a few 16v motors here, and 20vt have thrown theri flywheels. Some ARB 'cosworth' type bolts were suggested as an improved clamping on OE bolts.

What do you use?

Dowelling is one solution, but is hard to do right, and a bit pricey.  Once your done, the flywheel adn crank always has to stay together.  ARP bolts should be a help.  I've just ordered some of these shims and will be putting together a "flywheel retention kit" using the shims, upgraded hardware, and ground, hardened washers.  I'm pretty confident it will be sufficient.

No kit yet- no time to put it together.  My plan was to supply hardened washers and the correct length ARP (if the flywheel will accept them) bolts.  If you can supply me with either the length of your stock bolts or the thickness of your flywheel, i can put something together for you.

If your flywheel requires internally wrenching bolts, then we'll need to use OEM ones.
