OK, true to form here I am again!  Cracked my oil pan night before last  argh and am looking at trying to replace it vs. paying someone to do it.  I was told that I'm looking at an hours worth of labor (by the shop mind you) and $250 for the part.  And I don't know anyone who's done it themselves.  Anybody got any advice on this one.  I'm so sad!  embarassed Not to mention sick and riding my bike in this weather is brutal.

Add to the mix an '04 Getta GLI and you have Sarah's 1.8 turbo stable.

Hi
Make sure no other damage occurred   huh

Depending on the vehicle remove to cover under the sump if any
Unplug electrical connector (oil level sender) if your vehicle has got one , bottom of the sump.
Drain all remaining oil out of sump using the draining plug
Unbolt turbocharger oil return line from sump (two bolts)
Unscrew bolts securing oil sump to gearbox – you need an extension
Slacken bolts -1 ... 20- in diagonal sequence using T-bar , socket or ratchet
Take off sump: if necessary loosen it by striking lightly with a rubber hammer.
Remove baffle plate and carefully remove any remains of sealant from cylinder block.
Remove remaining sealant from sump (with rotating plastic brush or similar note clean but do not damage the surface).
Clean sealing surfaces: they must be free of oil and grease.

Installing

Install in reverse sequence; note the following points
◆ Renew seals and gaskets. (oil drain plug and turbo return pipe)
◆ Once the silicone sealant has been applied the oil sump needs to be installed within 5 minutes.
Cut off nozzle on tube at front marking (nozzle dia. approx. 3 mm). The sealant should be applied in a bead 2 ... 3 mm wide.
The bead of sealant must not be thicker than 3 mm, as otherwise excess sealant will enter the sump and obstruct the strainer in the oil intake pipe.
Apply silicone sealant to the clean sealing surface on the sump
Tighten bolts -1 ... 20- to an initial torque of 5 Nm in diagonal sequence.
Tighten bolts securing sump to gearbox -arrows- to 40 Nm.
Tighten bolts -1 ... 20- to 15 Nm in diagonal sequence.
Notes:
◆ After installing the sump, wait for about 30 minutes for the sealant to dry before putting in engine oil.
Fill up with engine oil and check oil level.  icon_thumbup
