I have two questions for the 1.8T experts:

1. Can the rod bearings be installed from the bottom after removing oil pan / crank shaft etc.?
2. Do the rod bolts use nuts or they just thread into rod cap? ETKA only shows rod bolts for B6/8E (AMB). What is actual orientation of bolt head, point down or up? Etka shows the bolt head down with no nut. Ebhan shows bolt head up with nuts at bottom.  If Ebhan is correct, I would assume one can not remove the rod bearings from bottom.

Any ideas or first hand experience?

Thanks

Yes, you can install rods bolts (and bearings) from below after you remove the pan and oil pump. You can't, and don't need to, remove the crank.
Your AMB uses a bolt that threads directly into the rod and must be replaced. Follow the factory torque procedures.
