Hi bobqzzi,

I have an audi TT APP, yr of manufacture 2001

I have recently bought JE pistons with lowered compression 8.5: 1 and pauter rods (all with upgraded 20mm wrist pins)...to go along with ATP eliminator GT28RS...also confirmed oversized race valves

I am seriously looking for cams in yr range (CAT CAMS STEEL BILLET) ...and a timing gear (probably adjustable Eurospec sport)

which would you recommend? I have looking for a setup for racing ....ideally to reduce lag...yet for high boost and advance timing..

I believe I should looking at yr hydro range...

please me know if your recommendation list requires me to port my engine chambers of any other modifications

What management will you be running, stock or stand alone?  Are you running VVT? What are you doing with the car?

I believe it is VVT as it is manufactured after 2001, engine code APP, Audi TT FWD.

We aim to build an 1.8T engine for track, autocross and road racing...with as little lag as possible...we are aiming around 350 - 400hp (yes we are aware that GT28RS is rated max at 350hp), but most importantly we are looking for torque will be aiming at 500NM or more torque .

It will be custom tuned at the dyno and rolling road by a tuner.

These are the engine parts in our company project car (www.DTMGT.com)..built for our marketing purposes

ENGINE PARTS:
Forge Motorsport Closed Loop Diverter Valve
BMC Carbon Dynamic Airbox
Neuspeed Power Pulley Kit
VF Engineering engine and transmission mounts
ABD Racing Front Intercooler Kit
ABD Racing Intake Manifold
ARP Engine Stud Kit
ATP Turbo GT28RS Eliminator Hardware Kit
3" ATP Turbo Downpipe T304 grade
ATP 3" Inlet pipe upgrade
Bosch Injector Set, 550CC
WALBRO FUEL PUMP KIT, 255 LPH HIGH
Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator
ATP Hi-Flow Billet Fuel Rail
ATP CNC Billet Aluminum 3" MAF Housing,
ATP Exhaust Mainfold
PAUTER Forged Rods, 20MM WRIST PINS
JE Pistons Set, 4 Cyl. (8.5 to 1 compression ratio), 81mm Bore
Eurospec 20V Exhaust and Intake Valves
Mocal 25 roll Oil Cooler
Mocal thermostat head exchanger kit with stainless steel pipes
REMUS TT 180 2WD Dual Exit (CAT back)
Electronic Boost Controller
Quaife LSD
Ground Control Camber Kit..

thanks for yr advice, Bob

the thing is we were told that lowering the compression was great for high boost but it would make the engine lazy so we need cams and cam spockets to advance the timing

BTW, we are an aftermarket bodykit manufacturer so engine knowledge is only until stage 2..For Stage 3 projects..we want to ask you on this..

most important is that we want to make good power and improve engine response

Well, you'll certainly need a bigger turbo.  3071 would be good.  As far as I know Eurospec exhaust valves are not sodium cooled (unless they have changed something) and will fail quickly at the kind of power you are looking for.

I'd say 3651s will probably fit the bil.

Also, I'd be pretty circumspect about trying to build a ton of torque- it breaks things and makes a FWD car difficult to drive on a road course or Auto-X

3651s? soory dont undestand that...are u referring to

CATCams 3651 - 245°/262°

actually we wanted a GT2871...we were told ot would be laggy for track or street racing..as power would come it after 3500rpm versus the GT28RS 2700rpms..

What about this instead of EurospecSport

Inconel Valve Set, Oversized, 5-valve Audi/VW Motors
http://www.034motorsport.com/product_info.php?products_id=533

Valve Spring Set, 5-valve, High Rate and Lift w/Ti Ret.
Headgasket, Multi-layer Steel, 20v 1.8t
Rod Bearing Set, VW 4-cyl, Coated
Main Bearing Set, Coated

these items are to be added to our mod list above

Or have u got something better?

Bob, I dont understand..what else can break - rods? pistons? Valves? gasket? crankshaft?

500 newton meter = 368.781 073 65 pound foot

should I get an engine girdle as well?

isnt that not very much compared to the FWD 400hp - 600hp GTI's out there?

maybe if it's not used for autocross that's fine...it's primarily a showcar and a roadcar for street racing...occasion on the track..(hence the large oil cooler)

so can I use this?

1.8T (CAT CAMS STEEL BILLET)

1003652
 267 / 280°
 226 / 232°
 9.25 / 11.00mm
 1.30 / 1.95mm
 O.E.M.
 HYDR: sport

thanks of the advice , Bob..

I make full boost on my 3076 by 4200-4300 rpms, not sure where you're getting these spool numbers from.

I own a Seat Leon VT with APP engine, it doesn't have VVT.

What it does have is S3 rods and pistons with 20mm pin.
