I need to replace my 02A4 Quattro Tiptronic engine and I have found a 03 AMB CVT engine locally for a good price. My question is will this engine fit my 02 AMB QT? Will I have to get the CVT crank machined to clear the torque converter? Is there such a thing like a needle / pilot bearing in CVT crank (similar to manual) that needs to be removed in order for the install? or the CVT is more like Automatic (QT). I understand that CVT uses a different flywheel and I will need to reuse the flex plate from my tiptronic.

If the crank needs to be machined, can it be machined while its still on the block or it has to be removed? Any specs on how much to be machined? or the machine shop will have to match from the my QT engine?

What other things would I need to do the swap other than rear main seal, timing belt job and new motor mounts?

Your help with comments and ideas will be greatly appreciated.

I can't tell from the ETKA.  My semi-informed guess is that the Auto crank is the way to go since if it does require a pilot bearing and adapter cna be made.  If you got a manual crank engine and it needed to be machined down, youd have to revove the crank.
