Hello there! I've seen a couple of these locally, but kinda thought it was an isolated deal. Another customer of ours sent me this picture today, and it got me thinking, I wonder if this happens more often then I origonally thought, to guys making good power.

Would anybody be interested in a tougher replacement bushing? I know at least for our local guy VF did not carry the bushing under warantee so I don't see a need for everyone to be repeatedly paying to replace the same bushing. I think there may be some machinework which could be carried out to help prevent this on the mount, but without having everybody send in their mounts, the only option I see is a tougher bushing. Given that almost everybody with these mounts already has their idle's raised and such, I don't think the vibration would really be any worse then it already is.

Picture of typical failure:

This of course results in a significant clunk until the bushing is replaced.

Looks like this is a common failure. The trick now is going to be toughening up that bushing without making it rattle your teeth out. It may be a while because I've got other stuff on my plate right now but I will update with progress.  icon_thumbup1

Why don't you just machine us up some billet ones?   icon_pimp  Bushings are for wimps.  lol

Then you gonna need to buy a mouth piece like that in boxing. Otherwise your teeth will sing a chattering song.  nana

some years ago it was suggested that when you get the poly bushings for the dogbone that you don't install the bushing that goes to the transmission for this very reason (as well as protecting that same bolt from shearing off).

Maybe should consider doing a softer bushing design instead?  That bushing has tons of torque on it and giving it some "give" may be a good thing?

the round ES insert lasted about 500 miles on my gti. The stock round one has been taking a beating for 55K, and holding up.

You guys do understand that tranny fluid, oil eats some rubber parts, so keeping them clean should help. The pics look nasty. Fluid everywhere. Fix those leaks man. Id kick you guys out of tech for a mess like that.

How much for those rear transmission mounts on the B5?

2 events ago at rally-x the rear pass side mount blew up, and the snub mount rubber escaped mysteriously.

APR hooked me up with a snub mount and I tried to fill the trans mount with potting compound, but the potting compound broke up after a dozen more runs.
