17748 Cam Position Sensor (G40) / Engine Speed Sensor (G28) : Incorrect Correlation - Lower Limit Exceeded

What's wrong?  Only have 700 miles on the new engine and timing was spot on after installation.  Car drives and sounds the same as before.  Could this be a cam or crank sensor problem?

Cam position sensor was bad.  $120 for the POS, but hey it's fixed!  Starts up much easier and smoother now.  Runs smoother as well...

well, new cam position sensor is throwing codes again.  Same ones.  Stopped for a couple days when the new sensor went in, but now it's back.  Checked my timing, cam and crank marks line up. Also checked the ohm resistance on the crank/engine speed sensor.  Everything was within spec.  Check the voltage readings on the cam position sensor harness.  Everything checked out okay on that too.  So timing is on, voltages and ohm reading are on.  I'm stumped.  The car sounds and drives perfect.  This code doesn't pop up automatically either.  Sometimes I can floor it past 100mph and no code is thrown.  Then sometimes I can just be driving mellow down the neighborhood road and I'll set the code off on vag.  What the fuck could this be then???  Could it possibly be that the cam timing is good but the sensors and the sensed reluctors or gear teeth are loose or something?

What crank is in the engine?

Also, when you installed the cam sprocket, did you adjust it much from 0?

Eurospec Knife Edged Forged 2.0 crank.  Cam sproket was installed using a counterholder tool so nothing moved.  Marked the spot on timing with red paint.  Torqued to 65NM.  Bob, if you have a minute check out the thread on my forum discussing this problem I've been having.  Some really good info that might give you some more insight to what's really going on with my car...

Bob, could the cam drive moving cause this DTC?  I think I might have to take off the valve cover today and investigate...

Yes it could, although it wouldn't be intermitant.  When you pull the valve cover, take a picture.
