lost on cams

Looking for some tech help. I have a B5 a4 with an aeb non dbw. The head has had two haircuts I believe, I know one for sure.I have a K04 pc-16 and shrick cams, fmic etc. I am in the middle of a new t-belt this weekend. I purchased the kit from ecs with the pulley. I also got the autotech cam gear and intermediate shaft gear. I set the stock crank and cam pulleys to tdc. when i placed the autotech gear on it appears the I was 2 deg ret.Yes the cars has had drivability issues. I wanted to degree the cams in but cant find any info online on how to do this? Right now the arrows are not in the middle of the dowel pins of the shricks, but they are lined up in some area of the dowel. these cams have been in for several years so I know its not perfect but can I get them dead on? I did not play with the gears on the back so I dont know if they are adjustable? I do have 16 links between the dowels. I determined that i was going to wait on the degree thing till I find out how so I left things alone and continued with the belt. as of now I re-aligned the cam gear to 0 and placed the belt on from there. everything turns free by hand and lines up with the marks (cam and crank) so I think I'm good. does this sound right. was I 2 degrees ret this whole time or should I go back the 2 deg like it was ( and the fact gear would be). If anyone has done these shricks and cam gear any info would be really great.TIA

Hello. It sounds like you have it close. However, I have never yet seen a set of schricks that install in the correct place by just lining up the dots. Degreeing them in the car is possible, but requires some specialized tools.
I degree cams in a fixture for $75.00 if you care to send them to me.

bring them to you, and you would set the gears on the chain tens side? If thats it sounds great. Would I still set the gear to "0"?

There is no doubt in my mind that my timing was off! car is soooo much happier. Anyone that has had ant machine work done to a head on a 1.8T needs to call autotech or who-ever and get a cam gear. I flat out thought I might have done something wrong when I saw that the factory gear was 2 deg ret. Now I know it was. I would like to thank CO avant for the inspiration to go out and get it, he had posted on Audi geeks about the gear so I ordered one (with the light weight intermediate shaft gear).
