hey my vw started overheating last night. and i added coolant to it today and let it run for a while with the heat blasting. and the heat was cold the whole time. and i dont think its headgasket because the exhaust smoke isnt white and there was a little leak at the bottom of the coolant reservior but i think it was a overfill drain or something like that. i think it might be the thermostat. well i was hoping you guys could help me out and save me a trip to the stealership thanks.

Sounds like a thermostat.  I'd try Pep Boys, Napa, or an other good autoparts store before going to the dealership.
