01 Jetta 1.8T Will not go into 1st or 2nd gear i ned help

tonight i lost 1st and 2nd gear in my 1.8t . the shifting linkage got really stiff and it would go into 1st then i played around with it more and it wouldint go into secound. the car is not makin and nosies from the transmission. any ideas of what is wrong and what todo ???? help me pleasssee

I gt 2nd gear back today cause i got pissed off and slamed it into it and now 2nd works fine still have to get 1st back. that website shows how to do it with a short shifter kit is that basically going to be the same as the stock linkage? And Thank You SO MUCH for the help

There is a full description of how to adjust stock linkage in the Bentley Repair Manual. They are not cheap but def worth getting.  They are the best and will help you with just about any project.

Well i played around with the linkage and im still not getting first gear. Im really thinking its in the tranny ive been trying to get 1st gear by shifting it from the tranny. it doesint even want to try to go into first.. and now my car is miss firing i had autozone plug the comp into it and it said miss fire on cylinder 2 ive had this car for a month .. a week after i got it the water pump went and it took them 2 weeks to fix that.i am not having luck with this car. I had a 98 jetta and you couldint kill it
