Does anyone know of anyone who makes a stronger 02J gearset.
Tried cryo heat treatment on gears or anything similar?

I broken 2nd and 5th gears on mine so far (different days) and this was when running 340bhp not the 480+bhp I have now..  Torque is 355lbft now, so not massive as such.

Car is used for circuit racing btw.

I remember seeing *something* about gear sets for 1st thru 3rd but cant for the life of me remember where I saw them and if it was 02M gears or 02J

Can anyone help shed some light and advise?
many thanks

AP Tuning (Thanks FAST A2) has drag racing gearsets for the 02J, though i don't beleive they have an upgraded 5th gear.
You buy the gearset for ~2K and then use O2A synchros and install in your box.

Eurospec sells Quaife gearset with all kinds of road race ratio's, 6 speed add ons etc etc. I heard the VR6 turbo guys are still blowing some quaife gearsets up.

I and many others upgraded from the o3J to an 02M tranny. I blew up 2nd and 3rd in my 02J trannies. They never shifted all that great and the ratios were not very good for road race / auto-x.

Problem with the 02m conversion is you need alot of parts, but by selling off your 5 spd stuff you can get soem of that back.

02M driveshafts are better than the 5 speed. ball and cage style inner joints. 100 mm outer joints.
The 02M shift feel it much better. they use brass shift forks instead of stamped sheet metal 02J crap.
overall it is a much better box, and better suited for road racing. The flywheel is 240 mm and can hold more torque than the 228 variety from the vr6/02j tranny.

overall I am veryu happy with my 6 speed box. The shift points really keep the revs up to spool a larger turbo.

thanks for the advise.
i am restricted to use 5spd box in my championship, although I have been using my 6spd quaife dog box this year with 6th locked out. quaife box gear selection is poor however.

02A synchros can go onto 02J gears?
other than race starts the ones i use will be 3rd/4th & possibly 5th on my 02J std gear ratios.  I like the long ratios. previoulsy I ran 02A CDA box which was shorter geared, but the torque and power spread I have is better suited tolonger gears I think.

thankyou

I believe that AP tuning has made 02a gears to cover both boxes, and shafts to fit o2a and o2j trannies, so you have to buy 02a synchros.

I am afraid that the quaife setup is probable the best available.

www.eurospecsport.com might have some additional combinations.

hoping the quaife is'nt... as I have suffered it for a long time.
www.seqshift.com also make boxes as do Drenth, but their std ratios do not suit my car or application.

AP Tuning looks good... anyone run these?
