QED has been exploring the possibilities of putting a 1.8T head on the 236mm ALH Diesel block. One obstacle is that the Diesel is designed for 12mm head studs, btu the 1.8T head will only accept an 11mm stud.
I commisioned ARP to make a special step-stud that works with the block and the head. Rather than the standard 8740 chrome-moly steel, QED chose ARP 2000 for its increased clamping rate.
$579 per set. They are a bit pricey, but worth it if you want to do the conversion.

The TDI blovk has an increased deck height of 236mm (as opposed to the 1.8Ts 220mm) which allows for a londer stroke.

nothing at all. funny how it took us 10 years to get to the same level as the DSMs though. But id like to think these motors will have better longevity.

Just stopping in and saw this which made me very happy . Other than the studs is there any other fitment requirements to build this motor? Welding of heads and so on?

There are a couple of holes in the deck which need to be plugged, and an adapter plate to use a 1.8T oil filter housing. Of course, a longer belt is required as well. I am hoping to offer a kit for this in the near future.

Hey Bob, any progress on a TDI block/AEB head conversion kit? I'm really looking to spend some cash.
