Hey guys,
Few questions I have regarding lifters in the 20V. I have a AEB thats been ported polished mildy that has full ferrea VT goin in...valves, springs, retainers and seats. I'll be running a 248/258 Revolver cam with a gt30/40r. Now my concern is how high can I rev with the hydraulic lifters, considering the lag and having to wait for power, i wanna be able to rev this motor out to take advantage of the powerband. Also if in the future I decide to swap to solid lifters will my other VT components be reusable???
Look forward to some discussion; thanks guys,

gonna depend entirely on what those springs can do.
you are going to get some crazy top end with that hardware btw.

with the lift on the cams, you should have enough clearence.you should be ok to 8500. just make sure you run a heavy weight oil, and you should be fine. 0w40 minimum.

No one knows the answer to this that I know of. I don;t think valve float will be an issue- but I also don't know where the hydro lifters start misbehaving It is my educated guess that the lifters are going to start having problems at 8000 or so.

I'd be inclined to dial it back to 7800 and call it good. Going to the expense of a solid lifter head to run 8000 seems a bit extravagant, If it is a drag only car, then you can get away with a lot of stuff that won;t fly in a daily driver.

it is a daily summer car (don't drive it in the Canadian Winter) but i dont abuse my car at all, I kill it maybe few times a week. If I do go solid id be inclined to push it to 8500+...just dont want to have a narrow powerband cuz of the size of the turbo.

My limiter has been set to 7800rpm for a number of years now and no ever had a hydro follower issue... UNTIL a coiuple of races ago. The motor got buzzed 3 races ago when the cable change rod end snapped off.. top of 2nd gear went for 3rd, cable snapped and it grabbed 1st again briefly... WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE went the motor for a second.
Motor ran ok afterwards, maybe not as crisp as before at the top end but not big difference. Did 2 x races and qualifications sicne the buzzed motor event. Was on a test day and it dropped a cylinder, just like a coil pack ,but not. mechanical dead #2 cyl.
Removed head and hydro lifter on one of the ex valve on #2 cyl was jacked open. would'nt close up. Left head overnight on its side and it closed.
Stripped head anyhow as I was convinced I had stressed the valvegear when it got buzzed. hey presto, exhaust valve spring on #2 was broken. It had just started to slip and the hydro lifter had jacked up to max to make up the gap. Very very lucky to not have dropped a valve. - Now runs valve springs from Supertech, dual exhaust ones, Ti retainers blah blah blah...
The motor "buzz" event took it to 9500rpm-10,000rpm briefly I think from the gear calcs.
7800rpm has stood me fine for 35K miles previously, no follower issues at all.
