hey (is it Justin?) enginerd,

the video is great.  about reeling in the sti:
i have an sti and no vw has ever reeled me in.  nothing but a really hopped up evo8.  so, are you reeling the guy in because of relative driver skill level or because your car aint no little wussy 1.8t?  or both.  probably both.

you do the downhill very nicely.   icon_thumbup1  it always scares me. icon_bowrofl (not sure what that icon means but it is amusing)

btw, you talk about class rules, etc. this didn't look like SCCA and in track days, i thought that there weren't really classes.  is it emra?

Well my car is over 265 whp, and 2750 lbs, so yeah I reel in STI's. They get a little jump ahead coming out of the corners, but I make up ground just about everywhere else. There are highly modified STI's with good drivers that I can't touch, maybe 3 seconds a lap faster than me. I am not sure what this sti had, or who was driving it. It was a fun chase, and nice to pull about a quarter lap on a "300 hp car".

Im running some AP racing brakes up front now, and braking has not been a problem. Also have the engine all pulled apart, and some new goodies that should put me ~ 340 whp with some 100 octane on tap. I had a great track day end of last year, but no camera to document it. I ended up running down a bunch of M3's and even got a poorly driven lotus and 911 as well. Here is a shot from the main straight where I got the 911. This was just a track day with my local autocross club, so it's not "real" road racing, but you know when you are faster, and when you are not.

The car is used mostly for autocross competition, though I am leaning more towards time trials and track days.
I run in the street modified class, which is pretty flexible on the rules. It is tough with the AWD cars, and the limited allowable weight reduction. I read rumors in pit talk of a FWD street mod class, hopefully something in the future

i have APs on my scirocco, too.  really, really old ones though.  solid backs.  they came off tim o'neils vwmotorsport rallye golf.  remember that one?  it won the scca national championship twice in the early nineties.  they are four pistons and small but work really well for my car which weighs (well last time i weighed it, it was 1845lbs.  now it's got the substructure for the false floor which adds but otherwise, it has got fiberglass door skins, hood, hatch, quarter panels...i am guessing it's closer to 1700lbs now with the oil (it holds something like 4 gallons of oil!).  which APs do you have?

yeah, i guess your motor would outpull the sti!   icon_thumbup1

it's cool that you guys get to pass on your track days.  it was so infuriating when i did track days with bmw club (back when i had 165hp) and the only place they'd let you pass was on the straights; you'd get stuck behind 740 or something the whole track and then when they should let you pass, they'd use that big 4liter motor and sort of saunter off for you to catch them in the next corner.

didn't see a picture.
