http://www.hostdub.com/albums/...n.mpghttp://www.hostdub.com/albums/...o.mpgWent to a CART track day on friday. Here's a sample of my in car vid. I have another 60 meg with me chasing a mustang cobra for about 10 laps. Hope you like them. Reeling in an STI after passing lapped traffic is such a rush. I reel him in HARD 2 times. I need brakes. ECS tuning you suck big llama balls for fucking me in the ass with my brake upgrade a week before my track event. Apparently "you should see them tuesday" Means im too fucking lazy to even check and see if they are in stock. Is this in the urban dictionary next to "two weeks"

Good Stuff Justin... You think going to the STG III+ turbo be a good subtle upgrade? Or maybe I should get you try Unitronics SW

I think stg III + would be nice for the track, but would hurt too much for auto-x. I do about 18 auto-x events, and 2 - 3 track days a year. I am more competitive at the auto-x and more reserved at the track days. I don't mind being down a bit on power for the track. But with the STG III, race fuel, water injection and 18 lbs of boost it's not really "down" on power. There was only 1 car there that really ripped on me. Well there was a viper, but he broke something and left on a flatbed. But there was a little white porsche 914 with a 3.2L carerra engine swapped in. It was nasty. The EVO mr's couldn't get by me on the straight, but passed me under braking at the end. They came up to me afterwards to tell me they coudln't pull on me. They were runnign high boost, race gas, and who knows what else.
I would certainly try out a unitronic file if it were free, or nearly so. I have a spare AWP ECU to put in. I would be real interested if the left foot braking protection was removed so I could autox with both feet. I could pay for a before (APR STG III) and after (UNI) dyno to make it worth your while?

You should have seen the dozen corvairs that were there. Ralph nader was picketing the event.
There are about 5 Fiero's that run with my auto-x club, they are pretty quick, and usually end up with their own class. F Prepared. They are pretty underpowered though.

FWIW, I ran Lime Rock in my Passat (which has about 3-400 lbs on you) on stock brakes with race pads and fresh fluid. "Reeled in" Ferrari's, Porsches, and Corvettes under braking (although obviously being underdriven). Using the correct pads make large rotors very overrated.

No, the times suck because of traffic. I can only pass on the main straight because it was a little damp. They let us pass on no name when it's dry. When I get out in the open I run like 1:07. According to stop watch on the sidelines, and my own stop watch on the cam corder playback. I think PC playback is a bit slower. I ran a 1:08 last time according to the laser timers. I didn't run the Time trial this time because I had to leave early and go to a rally-x in VT. Times are up and down sometimes because the brakes are real inconsistent. I over shoot or under shoot big bend under braking. I really need to work on that corner, and get some biger brakes. I can get like 2 -3 good laps before the brakes go south, but for 1 or 2 of those the tires are cold. Ecs really shafted me. I spent 1700 on brakes and never had a chance to get them on. i cancelled my order. ill wait till next year as I have no plans for more track days this year. After 15 auto-x events and 3 track days my tires are getting tired. Avon Tech R-s are pretty good race tires though. Not as sticky as hoosiers but they last 2+ times as long.
Too bad you couldn't make it out mike, and too bad about bob. I was hoping to have somone I could follow and show me the best line around. these guys are wimps and won't ride shotgun to provide instruction. it's only my 2nd time there I'm sure im missing some good lines. Particularly big bend.

I'm runnign 13" rotors from ECS with hawk HP+ Pads, fresh ATE super blue fluid. After 3 - 4 laps they are garbage. The car just doesn't slow down at the end of the straight. Worse is when the front fades so bad that the back end gets squirrely. I hit ~125+ mph on the straight

Replay the end and keep your eyes to the right at the top of the up hill turn.
I don't have room for the mustang one on my hostdub acct. I just upgraded, and im not upgrading again. If somoeone wants to give me a site I can upload too, i will be happy to. Mustang vid is pretty cool, i catch up then drop back a few times. I lose about 3 cars under braking and half way through big bend but gain 1 car at wot on the straight. I even pull on him a bit in the no name.

Time for some homemade sheet metal and that yellow jacket airbox hose brake ducts. :driving: Next event i will have some serious brakes with track only pads. Im pulling my headlight to feed the ram air to my airbox, and installing naca ducts in the lower grills to feed the brakes with air. I have some leftover 3" silicone duct work. To route to them, just need some kind of brackets to hold everything in place.

Man, that looks like sooooo much fun. Too bad I'm too much of a pussy to bring my car to an event like that, in fear that I may meet Mr. Armco and his all his tire friends.

running some avons huh? ever tried toyo ra-1's? we were running em on the cup cars for a while, they are not as sticky as the hoosiers but same deal, last a helluva lot better. Now everybody switched to hoosiers so to be competitive you gotta burn up hoosiers. we've got a set of avons on my bro's spec miata.

Supposedly Michelin Pilot Sport Cups grip like Hoosiers but wear like Toyos. They're pretty damn expensive though, and they take forever to warm up.

I ran RA1's last year. They are a great street/road race tire, but don't heat up fast enough for auto-x, and are not soft enough. They also seem to require additional negative camber which is in short supply on my car. I ran them on the street/track. I got abotu 8500 miles before I was too scared to drive them. The Avons are like gummy erasers in comparison.

very hard compared to all of these tires
yea, the toyo's are definantly harder then the hoosiers... If i ran any eastern tracks i'd give you a time comparo- but there is a second or more difference on a one minute track between the toyo's and the hoosiers
problem is a 2800lb cup car with 400bhp tears up the hoosiers in no time flat. like, a couple sets a weekend. which gets expensive, at 1600ish a set.

limited by fenders. and class rules limit the fenders so ya. basically.
Don't get me wrong we put a shitload of miles on em - that particular weekend i was speaking of me and my dad were tag teaming the car in two alternating run groups... It never was turned off almost all day, i'd be strapping in, on the grid, while less (another porsche buddy) was fueling and his guys doing tire pressures... thats what i love about them... versus my old open wheel car which was run for 20 minutes work on it for 2 hours.
my feet kept unhooking things on the pedals that weekend... somehow i got one of the clips to come off the clutch pedal lol, then the gas pedal.

I wanted to suggest looking into the R32 brakes at all four corners. You could get everything pretty cheap and this stuff works really well on canyon runs. Just make sure you get the proper threaded banjo bolt for your front calipers
